The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as a HSQE Specialist. The successful candidate will have a supporting role for the day-to-day execution of activities for the smooth operation of the OHS Department. They will be responsible for ensuring that the Institute adheres to all applicable health and safety regulations whilst also providing support to staff, researchers and faculty managers in their efforts to maintain a safe workplace.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>The rank of the position will depend on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 24 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>Responsible to execute departmental administrative daily activities including the following:<ul><li>Maintenance and update of records </li><li>Preparation and carrying out correspondence </li><li>Handling documentation</li></ul></li><li>Makes suggestions for relevant policy/procedure improvements</li><li>Maintains an in-depth understanding of rules and regulations, relevant laws and guidelines that apply to the position </li><li>Liaises with relevant Governmental and non-Governmental departments and authorities for matters relevant to the position </li><li>Helps to develop effective H&amp;S policies and procedures </li><li>Ensures the Institute meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting</li><li>Ensures the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all lab activities, field works, as well as for the operation of equipment</li><li>Ensures that all accidents or near-misses are documented, investigated and recommended improvements are implemented</li><li>Ensures that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities</li><li>Prepares recommendations for prevention and protection measures </li><li>Supports Health and Safety inspections in CyI premises</li><li>Supports with the organization and implementation of relevant inductions and trainings</li><li>Ensures full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained</li><li>Instructs staff in the proper use of equipment and conducts routine tests </li><li>Counsels’ individuals on any personal or domestic problems affecting their work</li><li>Promotes and maintains safety in the workplace</li><li>Performs related duties and assigned</li></ul><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>Required Qualifications:<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>Basic Academic qualifications (School Certificate, Diploma) – for Assistant Rank</li><li>Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a similar field, such as engineering or architecture or related field – for Officer Rank</li><li>Training with a total duration of 130 hours as required by the Department of Labour Inspection for the approval of a Safety Officer (this is mandatory unless the candidate holds an academic degree in H&amp;S (Bachelor or Master))</li><li>Demonstrate knowledge of ISO standards 9001, 14001 and 45001</li><li>Excellent knowledge of the English and Greek languages both verbally and in writing</li><li>Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office </li><li>Demonstrated development ability, outstanding organizational, analytical, problem solving and communication skills</li><li><a>Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment</a></li><li>Ability to&nbsp;multitask&nbsp;and changing priorities in a high-pressure work environment</li><li>Attention to detail</li><li>Customer service-oriented approach.</li></ul><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>Preferred Qualifications:<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>1-year relevant experience in a Health and Safety related position will be an advantage</li><li>Master’s in Occupational Health and Safety or relevant field, will be an advantage</li><li>Professional Qualification/Accreditation in Occupational Health and Safety (i.e. NEBOSH) will be an advantage</li></ul><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>Application:<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>For full consideration, interested applicants should process their application at The Cyprus Institute Exelsys Platform (<a href="https://bit.ly/3HDLRTw">https://bit.ly/3HDLRTw</a>) based on the instructions given.
