The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:
1. The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC)
2. The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)
3. The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC)
4. The Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C)
5. The Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC)
Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.
The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a new faculty member at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track), to join the Institute’s STeDI-RC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassa’s Campus.
The selected candidate is expected to advance the research and teaching agenda of CyI’s Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC) in the field of Decision Support for Climate Policies.
STeDI-RC is a cross-disciplinary endeavour to engage in policy research and innovation addressing today’s sustainability challenges. Energy and climate policy is a key priority in the Centre’s agenda, requiring rigorous techno-economic assessments through various methods, including optimization, simulation, multicriteria analysis as well as stakeholder participation methods.
Assistant Professors, the entry level of Faculty at the Cyprus Institute, are responsible to lead and carry out research, innovation, and education activities, mentor students, and contribute to the development of the Cyprus Institute’s and their Research Centre’s scientific vision and mission in their field of expertise.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities
The successful candidate is expected to carry out research and advance the state-of-the-art in decision support methods for use in policy decisions to achieve zero-carbon economies, at national, European and international level. For this purpose, the successful candidate is expected to collaborate closely with researchers at STeDI-RC and other CyI Centres (EEWRC and CARE-C). CyI is the main advisor of the government of Cyprus in energy, environmental and climate policy, with continuous support to public authorities on implementing and assessing policies of the European Green Deal. Therefore, in addition to groundbreaking research, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to this advisory role as well.
Position Specific Required Qualifications
· PhD degree related to Decision Support methods for assessing the impacts of climate, energy and/or environmental policies.
· Experience in the application of several research methods for decision support (e.g. optimization, simulation models, multicriteria assessments, stakeholder participation methods).
· Experience in attracting competitive research funding in the European research and innovation landscape.
· Experience in international research collaboration.
· Excellent knowledge of European energy and climate policy and the international climate policy landscape.

Duration of appointment:
The candidate will work in Cyprus and will be offered a tenure-track position.
Remuneration details:
Salary Band: For Assistant Professor CyI7.1 - CyI7.8
Position’s Starting Salary: CyI7.1 - €55,723.33
Previous years of experience in the same rank offered by CyI will be considered for the first placement on the pay band. For each completed year of previous experience at the time of contract start, one pay step will be recognised on the respective pay band.
