The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:
1. The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC)
2. The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)
3. The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC)
4. The Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C)
5. The Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC)
Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.
The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Researcher to join the Institute’s CARE-C Centre of Excellence on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassas Campus.
The successful candidate will focus on developing and applying machine learning, artificial intelligence, data-driven modelling approaches, and large-scale environmental data analytics. These developments directly align with emerging research priorities of CARE-C in climate change impacts, environmental forecasting, Earth observation applications, environmental health, and digital twin initiatives.
The successful candidate will actively contribute to the current activities of Environmental Predictions Department (EPD) and support the development of its research activities. The role aims to significantly strengthen CARE-C's AI and data science capabilities.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
· Development of innovative methodologies, machine-learning tools, data analysis, and advanced computational applications in air pollution and climate change modelling.
· Methodological innovation in environmental and climate change-related data science and research applications.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
· PhD in Computational or Data Sciences, Physics, or relevant field
· Interdisciplinary background that aligns closely with the requirements of the position.
· Expertise spanning to atmospheric physics and chemistry, environmental health, advanced computational modelling, machine learning, data science, high-performance computing, and environmental applications.
· Previous experience in the development of mathematical and computational models, quantitative imaging methodologies, machine learning and deep learning applications, climate-impact assessment tools, environmental-health modelling, climate downscaling techniques, and Earth-observation-based environmental analytics.

Duration of appointment:
The initial period of the appointment will be for 24 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.
Remuneration details:
Salary Band: CYI5(2-11)
Position’s Starting Salary: CYI5.2 - € 44,516.94
