Medicover Laboratories is seeking a motivated and dedicated Laboratory Scientist to join our Microbiology team in Nicosia (Strovolos).

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing microbiological testing and analysis of clinical specimens, supporting the identification of microorganisms, maintaining laboratory quality standards, and contributing to the efficient day-to-day operation of the Department while ensuring accuracy, and compliance with laboratory procedures.

Main Responsibilities

·       Receive, handle, process, and store biological samples in accordance with established laboratory procedures.

·       Prepare and preserve samples under appropriate conditions to ensure accurate testing and analysis.

·       Operate, monitor, and maintain laboratory analyzers and equipment.

·       Prepare reagents, materials, instruments, and laboratory consumables required for daily operations.

·       Perform microbiological testing and analysis of clinical specimens in accordance with laboratory protocols and quality standards.

·       Prepare, inoculate, monitor, and interpret microbiological cultures.

·       Assist in the identification of microorganisms and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

·       Perform microscopy and other microbiological diagnostic procedures, where applicable.

·       Accurately document, manage, and update laboratory records and test results.

·       Ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards, health and safety regulations, and hygiene protocols.

·       Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of biological and potentially infectious materials in accordance with biosafety requirements.

·       Contribute to the efficient operation of the laboratory while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism. 

Qualifications & Requirements

·       Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related scientific field.

·       Experience in a similar role will be considered an advantage.

·       Ability and willingness to work on a rotating shift schedule, including night shifts.

·       Good command of Greek and English, both written and spoken.

·       Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

·       Proactive, responsible, and adaptable approach to work.

·       Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.

·       Knowledge of microbiological techniques, laboratory quality standards, and biosafety procedures will be considered an advantage.

Working Hours

·       The position is based on a 42-hour working week.

·       The laboratory operates:

o   Monday to Friday: 07:30 – 20:00

o   Saturday: 07:30 – 14:30

o   Sunday: 08:00 – 16:00

·       The successful candidate will work on a rotating shift schedule in accordance with departmental rostering and operational requirements, which may include weekend shifts.
