The Senior MS SQL Production DBA will be a key member of our DBA Team. The Team’s responsibilities include the implementation of changes for both business and technical stakeholders, DB monitoring, maintenance, and performance management. This ensures the availability and retention of critical data and the high-throughput and low-latency of our trading systems. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, and broad experience, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.
The successful candidate will work closely with the in-house development team and IT operations. They will need to perform investigative activities to resolve incidents and to build upon legacy DB business logic. They should be able to leverage their knowledge and judgment to help optimize the activities of the DB Team, and to reduce IT Risk, refresh DB related operational processes, procedures, hardware and software.
This is a key role in helping our organization to achieve a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and future business objectives, while at the same time ensuring that the company’s production databases offer the highest reliability and performance possible.
What you’ll be doing
- Perform routine DBA activities & service requests.
- Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments.
- Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
- Write stored procedures, manage execution plans and indexes.
- Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time.
- Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
- Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
- Contribute to the documentation of DB Related Incidents and help drive related Improvements.
What we’re looking for
- 6+ years of work experience on Microsoft SQL Server Databases (2016+).
- Expert in performing T-SQL DDL/DML commands using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Strong experience in database installation, configuration, capacity planning
- Experience with backups, restores, recovery models, and Security.
- Know-how in implementing different types of High Availability and Disaster Recovery scenarios like SQL Server clusters, log shipping, and AlwaysOn.
- Installed and maintained SQL Server failover clustering for SQL Server 2016+.
- Background in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization
- Being Involved in R&D projects (designing & creating DBs, tables, writing functions and procedures)
- Exposure in reverse engineering and documenting legacy DB stored procedures and processes.
- An understanding of the SQL locks mechanism/ isolation levels, and their internals.
- Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality.
- Experience working with monitoring tools like Redgate Monitor, SQL Sentry, etc.
Nice to have
- Forex industry and/or Regulatory reporting knowledge.
- Maria DB and MySQL experience.
- Creating and managing processes to transform data for use in BI, reporting, or data analysis.
- Experience in migrating DBs from on-prem/private-cloud to public clouds.
- A practical understanding of Incident Management and IT Risk Management.
- PowerShell
- Practical knowledge of SSIS and SSRS
- MCTS, MCITP, and/or MVP certifications.
- MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solution Associate)
- MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert)
- Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA): Database Fundamentals SQL Certification
