Title:&nbsp;Special Scientist for Research (Research Associate) No. of Positions:&nbsp;One (1) Category:&nbsp;Employment contract Location:&nbsp;University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus&nbsp;The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus announces&nbsp;one (1) Research Associate position, for full-time employment. The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research projects addressing the complex interactions between climate change, infectious disease dynamics, and epidemiological surveillance, guided by the&nbsp;One Health&nbsp;framework.&nbsp;Who we are: The KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence is the largest research center at the University of Cyprus and in 2017 was upgraded to a European Research Center of Excellence through the KIOS CoE Teaming project. Currently, the Center employs more than 180 people who are supported by externally funded research and innovation projects. We offer internal and external professional training, covering both technical and soft skills.&nbsp;Job Details The successful candidate is expected to: • Develop and implement data-driven methodologies for disease surveillance and risk modeling. • Integrate environmental, animal, and human health data to detect and predict outbreaks and trends. • Design and deploy real-time monitoring systems for vector-borne and zoonotic diseases. • Contribute to health policy frameworks informed by analytics on climate and disease trends. • Prepare reports and project deliverables. • Produce, publish and present research results in high quality conferences and journals. • Engage in the preparation of research and/or innovation proposals.&nbsp;The required skills and expertise for the announced positions include one or more of the following areas: • Epidemiology and public health surveillance • Climate change modeling and impact analysis • Zoonotic and vector-borne disease monitoring • Data science, AI/ML in health and environmental applications • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing for disease mapping&nbsp;Profile of the ideal candidate: • Attention to detail • Problem solving skills • Team-player • Reliable and trustworthy • Flexible and eager to learn • Able to adapt in a fast-paced dynamic environment • Good communication, organizational and self-management skills • Excellent knowledge of the Greek and English language&nbsp;Qualifications and Experience: • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Remote Sensing, Data Science, Electrical &amp; Computer Engineering, or related fields from an accredited institution • Doctorate degree or equivalent in the subject areas above or related fields • Relevant experience will be considered an advantage&nbsp;Employment Terms: The position is on a contract basis. Initially, a one-year contract will be offered, with a 6-month probation period, which is renewable based on performance. The gross monthly salary depends on the candidate’s qualifications and experience and will be between €2300 – €3500. From this amount, employee contributions to the Cyprus government funds will be deducted. A 13th salary bonus is incorporated in the monthly salary.
