<img src="/sites/default/files/inline-images/image_40.png" width="250" height="63" data-entity-uuid="3b6407c4-3c70-4c04-b205-57035b1bca62" data-entity-type="file">&nbsp;&nbsp;DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS&nbsp;SPECIAL SCIENTIST POSITIONS (RESEARCH)&nbsp;Title:&nbsp;Special Scientist – Research (Junior or Senior Researcher)&nbsp;No. of Positions:&nbsp;One (1) or two (2)&nbsp;Category:&nbsp;Contract up to one year with the possibility of renewal&nbsp;Location:&nbsp;University of Cyprus, Nicosia&nbsp;The Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Cyprus invites applications for one or two part-time/full time Special Scientists-Research positions (Junior or Senior Researcher) in the research group of Assistant Professor&nbsp; Christoforos Neofytidis, as part of his research program “EXCELLENCE/0925 – Hopf problem and monotone invariants”.&nbsp;QUALIFICATIONS:&nbsp;PhD or Master’s degree in Mathematics in the research areas of Topology, Geometry, Algebra or Dynamical Systems.&nbsp; Preference will be given to candidates with research interests that include aspherical manifolds, Hopfian groups and other&nbsp; Hopf-type properties, non-zero degree maps, simplicial volume and other monotone invariants, geometric structures (in the&nbsp; sense of Thurston, fiber bundles, etc.), Anosov diffeomorphisms, low-dimensional manifolds and related topics.&nbsp;&nbsp;For all positions a very good knowledge of the English language is required.&nbsp;DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:&nbsp;&nbsp;Participation and contribution to the research program of Prof. Neofytidis. Writing and publication of research outcomes.&nbsp;EMPLOYMENT TERMS:&nbsp;The position&nbsp;can start in September 2026 or later. The position comes with&nbsp;no teaching duties. Full-time employment&nbsp; equals to 140hrs/month. The monthly gross salary for full-time employment will be determined based on the experience&nbsp; and qualifications of the selected candidate and will range between €1500 - €2000. From the monthly gross earnings, the&nbsp; University of Cyprus will deduct the relevant sum which corresponds to the contributions of the employee to the various&nbsp; Governmental Funds and, if applicable, income tax.
