A. Purpose of the Position
The Junior and Senior School are looking to hire an enthusiastic, hardworking individual in the position of Biology Teacher (Part-Time, Maternity Cover) for the Academic year 2026-2027.
The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic Science Faculty working alongside dedicated and enthusiastic Science teachers and lab technicians to provide a highly engaging, interesting and challenging curriculum which allows all our students to develop the skills and the confidence needed to be successful young Scientists and Biologists.
B. Main Duties & Responsibilities
Learning and Teaching
- Teaching and monitoring Biology classes as per the corresponding Biology curricula.
- Delivering outstanding lessons for IB, A Level, IGCSE and KS3 General Science, depending on experience and departmental needs.
- Inspiring and guiding Biology students in external competitions and contributing to an enriched curriculum programme.
- Coordinating and collaborating with Science Faculty staff to update and improve resources and schemes of work.
- Planning and preparing stimulating, challenging and enjoyable learning opportunities which take into account the curriculum of the school and the individual abilities of the pupils in the class.
- Consistently teaching at an elevated level to ensure pupils’ learning is challenging and progressing.
- Whenever possible, giving immediate verbal or written feedback to pupils about their learning so that they know how to improve.
- Assessing, recording and reporting on the development and progress of pupils.
- Checking on the academic progress of individual pupils on a regular basis.
- Differentiating teaching materials so that tasks and expectations are appropriate and support and challenge pupils whatever their levels of ability.
- Ensuring that all records and data collection is up to date, entered by the required deadline and that information is passed onto Subject Leaders and the Head Teacher in a timely manner.
- Communicating and consulting with the parents or carers of pupils about their child’s progress in all areas.
- Communicating and consulting with specialist teachers when required.
- Communicating and co-operating with agencies outside the school as appropriate.
- Working as part of a team to plan collaborative schemes of work and learning plans for pupils in their particular year group.
Discipline
- Providing guidance and advice to pupils on their social and emotional development.
- Maintaining high standards of behaviour in all learning situations; being aware of the School’s Behavioural Policy and procedures.
- Maintaining a high standard of pupil behaviour in the playground and common areas. Being alert and proactive and informing and liaising with class teachers when appropriate.
Mental Health & Pastoral
- Supporting and promoting the mental health and wellbeing of staff and children.
- Collaborating closely with the Pastoral Team to ensure appropriate care, safeguarding and wellbeing initiatives are implemented across the school.
C. Required Qualifications & Experience
Relevant Experience
At least 2 years of relevant teaching experience.
Education & Training
- KYSATS recognized university degree in Biology.
- Edexcel IGCSE and A-level curriculum experience.
Special Skills & Knowledge
- Excellent knowledge of the English language.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Emotional Intelligence and resilience
- Good classroom management skills.

Any additional duties that might be deemed for you to undertake, will be communicated clearly and transparently. All professional staff are expected to undertake other duties and projects as may be reasonably required by the Head of School, Senior School Headteacher and/or the line manager in accordance with the grade of the post.
