Finance Manager – Construction & Property Management
About the Role
We are seeking an ambitious, commercially minded and hands-on Finance Manager to lead and develop the finance function of a fast-growing construction and property management company. This is a rare chance to build a finance function from the ground up, backed by a company that values its people and rewards them well.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process.
- Prepare accurate and timely management accounts and financial reports.
- Deliver meaningful financial analysis, KPIs and dashboards to management.
- Assist senior management with strategic financial planning and decision-making.
Project Accounting & Commercial Finance
- Develop project-level profitability reporting across all construction and development projects.
- Monitor project costs.
- Work closely with project managers to improve financial visibility and cost control.
- Analyse project performance and identify commercial risks
Accounting & Financial Control
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting function.
- Review bank, supplier, customer and intercompany reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate accounting for:
- Journals
- Accruals
- Prepayments
- Fixed assets
- Construction costs
- Revenue recognition
- Maintain accurate and robust balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all account balances are supported by complete, timely, and well-organized schedules.
- Strengthen internal controls and finance policies.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, VAT, taxation and statutory reporting requirements.
- Coordinate external audits and maintain audit readiness throughout the year.
Building the Finance Function
- Assess which finance activities should remain outsourced and which should be brought in-house.
- Design and implement scalable finance processes.
- Improve reporting systems and financial workflows.
- Build a high-performing finance function focused on accountability, efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Drive automation and digitalisation of finance processes where appropriate.
Requirements
Essential
- Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA or equivalent).
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with hands-on experience.
- Experience preparing management accounts
- Excellent knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working with esoft accounting system will be an advantage
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, growing business.
Highly Desirable
- Experience within construction, property development and management or real estate.
- Experience with project accounting and WIP reporting.
- Knowledge of construction contracts and project costing.
- Experience implementing internal controls and finance processes.
- Experience building or scaling a finance department.
- Experience transitioning accounting functions from outsourced providers to an in-house
