ABOUT US
The Karaiskakio Foundation is a non-profit organization with a distinguished presence in the humanitarian and scientific fields in Cyprus for over 29 years. Evolving into a world-class multidisciplinary centre, the Foundation specializes in hematology, oncology, cancer genetics, and the study of rare and genetic diseases.
We are currently seeking a motivated and compassionate Genetic Counsellor to join its dynamic team.
THE ROLE
As a (Junior) Genetic Counsellor, you will be expected
- to comprehend and establish records of patients’ medical and family history,
- to assess possible inheritance patterns and the risk of recurrence
- to discuss testing, management and surveillance options
- to empower patients in understanding and making informed decisions about their health and their options in family planning
You will work under the supervision of senior team members and contribute to the development of the Foundation’s genetic services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage a caseload of patients through face-to-face, virtual, and telephone consultations
- Collect and analyze family and medical histories to assess genetic risk
- Assist in recommending and interpreting appropriate genetic tests
- Communicate complex genetic information in an accessible and compassionate manner
- Provide counselling and psychological support to patients and families
- Maintain thorough clinical records and prepare follow-up correspondence
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team including medical geneticists, genetic counsellors, other clinicians, and scientists
- Participate in education, awareness, and research initiatives as needed
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Accredited Master’s degree in Genetic-GENOMIC COUNSELLING
- Strong foundational knowledge in human genetics and counselling principles
- Fluent in Greek and English, both written and spoken
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage sensitive and emotional topics with empathy and professionalism
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Computer literacy
- Familiarity with electronic medical records
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in a medical genetics setting
