SmartSea delivers maritime and aviation technology solutions across connectivity, port services, fleet performance, biometric identity, and managed IT. Through the SmartSea Vision programme, SmartSea is transitioning to a cloud-native, platform-based operating model focused on reusable capabilities, customer value, and measurable business outcomes. Product Management plays a key role in ensuring investment and delivery efforts are directed towards the highest-value opportunities.

Position Summary
The Head of Product Management is accountable for establishing, scaling, and leading SmartSea’s product management discipline across SmartSea’s new Vision portfolio of products and services. The role owns product vision, strategy, value hypotheses, outcomes, prioritization, and portfolio-level trade-offs.
This is a commercially led product leadership role that bridges market opportunities, customer needs, commercial strategy, and technology delivery. The Head of Product Management ensures teams build the right products, in the right sequence, with clear value hypotheses, measurable success criteria, and strong alignment to SmartSea’s platform strategy.

The role provides leadership across product discovery, product portfolio management, product roadmap governance, stakeholder engagement, and product organization development. Technical fluency would be advantageous, but the role is not responsible for engineering delivery, solution design, or technical implementation.

To ensure SmartSea consistently delivers customer and business value by defining product vision, owning strategic product outcomes, prioritizing product investment decisions, and building a high-performing product management capability that accelerates growth and innovation.

Operating Model & Decision Rights
• Owns product vision, strategy, portfolio priorities, roadmaps, and product outcomes.
• Leads product investment recommendations and prioritization decisions through agreed governance forums.
•  Establishes Product Management standards, governance, and ways of working.
• Product Management owns the WHAT and WHY (customer value, business outcomes, prioritisation, sequencing, and roadmap decisions). Engineering owns the HOW (solution design, architecture implementation, and technical delivery) within agreed technology standards and architectural guardrails.
•  Partners with Enterprise Architecture to align product decisions with platform strategy.
• Partners with Programme Management, Engineering, Operations, and Commercial teams to align product outcomes with delivery plans and business priorities.
Core Responsibilities
• Define and communicate product vision, strategy, value propositions, and desired business outcomes.
• Own portfolio-level product roadmaps and prioritization across product domains.
• Translate business strategy and customer needs into measurable product outcomes and OKRs.
• Lead product discovery, validation, and value-driven prioritization activities.
•  Ensure product investments align with SmartSea's platform strategy and long-term business objectives.
•  Identify market opportunities, customer needs, and innovation opportunities that create business value.
• Establish product performance measures and feedback mechanisms to support continuous improvement.
•  Build and lead a high-performing Product Management organization.
• Coach and mentor Product Managers and Product Owners, establishing consistent product management practices, behaviours, and decision-making frameworks across the organisation.
•  Promote customer-centricity, experimentation, and outcome-based decision making.
•  Communicate product strategy, roadmap priorities, and product performance to senior stakeholders.

Experience and Capabilities
•  8+ years' experience in Product Management, Product Leadership, or Portfolio Management roles.
•  Proven experience defining product strategy, roadmaps, and outcome-based prioritisation frameworks.
•  Experience leading product portfolios and building Product Management capabilities and teams.
•  Strong understanding of modern product operating models and agile delivery practices.
•  Strong commercial awareness and customer-centric mindset.
•  Experience working within digital platform, SaaS, enterprise software, or technology-led organizations.
•  Ability to influence senior stakeholders and balance strategic goals with delivery commitments.
•  Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
•  Maritime, logistics, transportation, or related industry experience is desirable.

The ideal candidate is a commercially minded product leader with maritime (or adjacent) industry background who can combine customer understanding, market insight, business strategy, and disciplined prioritization to maximize value delivery across SmartSea’s portfolio. They should be capable of building a strong product culture, developing product talent, and ensuring SmartSea invests in the right opportunities while maintaining alignment with its long-term platform strategy and growth ambitions.
