Cyprus Research and Academic Network (CYNET)

IT OFFICER

The Cyprus Research and Academic Network (CYNET) is seeking to recruit a capable and motivated IT Officer to join its team in Paphos. The successful candidate must have sound knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud technologies, networking, and system administration. The IT Officer will be responsible for the effective provisioning, operation, and maintenance of systems, networks, and related infrastructure that support CYNET’s mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Administer, support, and monitor cloud-based systems including Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365

·        Manage, configure, and maintain network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, and Radius servers

·        Provide first- and second-line technical support to users for systems, applications, and networks

·        Assist in planning, deployment, and documentation of IT infrastructure and security controls

·        Support identity and access management systems (e.g., SAML, Federated Access)

·        Participate in incident response and troubleshooting of hardware, network, and software issues

·        Perform routine system backups, patch management, and upgrades

·        Apply and maintain network and system monitoring tools

·        Ensure that systems adhere to security best practices and organizational policies

·        Work closely with external vendors and service providers

·        Maintain up-to-date IT documentation and asset inventory

·        Support and ensure the availability of cloud and on-premises services

·        Participate in IT-related projects and initiatives

Academic-Professional Qualifications / Work Experience:

·        BSc in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field

·        2–4 years’ experience in IT support or systems/network administration roles

·        Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure administration

·        Working knowledge of Windows and Linux systems administration

·        Practical experience with firewalls, VPNs, routing, switching, and Radius servers

·        Familiarity with scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash)

·        Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills

·        Familiarity with identity and access management concepts (e.g., SAML)

·        Version control and ticketing systems (e.g., Git, osTicket)

Other Preferred Experience:

·        CCNA or equivalent networking certification (preferred)

·        Experience managing network protocols and services (DHCP, DNS, SNMP, etc.)

·        Familiarity with cloud security practices and technologies

·        Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions

·        Understanding of cybersecurity principles and tools

·        Experience with monitoring platforms (e.g., Zabbix, Nagios, or similar)

·        Working knowledge of database and directory services (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP)
