The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) invites applications for the recruitment of qualified applicants for a Researcher position. The candidate should have a background in Robotics, cybernetics, autonomy, or a closely related field.
The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute
The CMMI is a non-profit, research, innovation and technology development organisation established in Cyprus, supported by EU funds via the Teaming program, as well as the Government of Cyprus and established industry stakeholders. The CMMI pulls together expertise from local universities and industry and international partners. To date, the CMMI has attracted more than EUR 10M of competitive funding for Research, Innovation and Technology Development projects across 30 EU-funded, national, and other collaborative projects with renowned partners, such as the Danish Technical University (DTU) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Candidate profile:
For new industrial and EU-funded projects, we seek researchers who, under the supervision of the Research Director for Marine Technology, will deliver scientific research and innovation development, lead and coordinate technology development tasks and advance the technology readiness level of key innovative solutions of cyber-physical autonomous systems. The candidate will have the unique opportunity to work with the project’s partners, all leading universities and research centres in Europe, and international private companies directly interested in the foreseen solutions. We value individuals who are ready to take on challenges, keen on undertaking applied research work, and delivering solutions that are fit for purpose in the industry or public sector.
Job description:
Successful candidates will contribute to CMMI projects and:
Assist or develop highly scalable, robust, and secure autonomous systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and launch new features and functionalities
- Take ownership of the solution development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment.
- Perform validation activities either in small-scale facilities (pool) or at sea
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and make recommendations on adoption where appropriate.
Qualifications:
PhD, MSc, or BSc in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
Experience designing control systems for autonomous systems, particularly marine vehicles.
Advanced skills in developing navigation, sensor fusion, and fault-tolerant control algorithms using MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or similar.
Ability to develop and test innovative control strategies that enhance the autonomy and safety of marine vessels in uncertain environments.
Advantageous:
Expertise in advanced topics such as adaptive control, nonlinear systems, or predictive control applied to autonomous navigation.
Capability to establish collaborations with industry and academic partners to foster technological transfer and application of research findings.
Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research combining engineering, robotics, computer science, and marine sciences.
