Position Details
Job Title: Senior Accounting Officer
Department: Finance
Location: Nicosia
What You Will Be Doing:
· Oversee and review the daily bookkeeping of supplier invoices, bank transactions, and monthly customer invoicing performed by the wider accounting team, ensuring accuracy and consistency at all times.
· Review weekly bank reconciliations and the weekly bank balances report, identifying and resolving discrepancies flagged by the team.
· Oversee supplier reconciliations, including sign-off prior to payment runs, and manage the year-end supplier reconciliation process end-to-end.
· Prepare and review month-end accounting reports, providing meaningful commentary and analysis to the Financial Controller.
· Own the preparation and review of supporting schedules for VAT return submissions, liaising with tax advisors as needed.
· Act as a primary point of contact for external auditors and other business partners, coordinating information requests and resolving queries efficiently.
· Support the Financial Controller with statutory financial statement preparation and other technical reporting requirements.
· Ensure full compliance with local tax regulations, VAT obligations, and applicable financial legislation, keeping all records audit-ready at all times.
· Provide guidance, mentorship, and day-to-day support to more junior members of the accounting team.
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for a portfolio of clients, ensuring completeness and integrity of data.
· Provide support with external auditors, banks, tax authorities, and other key stakeholders on behalf of clients and the firm.
· Drive continuous process improvements and strengthen internal controls within the accounting function.
· Lead or support ad hoc projects and accounting-related requests as they arise.
Requirements
· Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· Experience in a similar accounting role, ideally within an international, professional services, or regulated financial services environment will be consider as an advantage.
· Demonstrable experience supervising or mentoring junior accounting staff.
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and internal controls.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel, and experience with financial reporting and ERP tools.
· Exceptional attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
· Solid understanding of Cyprus tax regulations, VAT requirements, and financial compliance obligations.
· Familiarity with accounting software such as PatSoft, Sofia, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 will be considered a significant advantage.
