Payments, Acquiring & Banking (high-risk vertical)

• Own the relationships with payment gateways, acquirers, and processors, and the timely verification and reconciliation of all settlements.
• Work with the internal payment specialist to optimise payment cascading and routing, maximising acceptance rates and reducing transaction costs.
• Manage chargeback, dispute, and fraud costs, and ensure correct accounting treatment for each.
• Own banking relationships across multiple accounts, entities, and currencies. Manage processor and banking concentration risk and keep the rails resilient in a vertical where providers can drop merchants with little notice.
• Manage rolling reserves held by acquirers, including reserve strategy, forecasting, and release.

Creator Payouts & Liability

• Oversee all creator payouts across the USA and Rest of World, ensuring timely and accurate disbursement across multiple payment methods.
• Account correctly for creator balances owed as a liability, own the reserve policy, and protect the integrity of every creator balance on the platform.
• Evaluate and onboard new payout providers in line with business expansion.

Cash, Runway & FP&A

• Own the cash-flow model and runway, with a reliable weekly cash position across all accounts and entities.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and disciplined burn tracking and control.
• Build board-grade reporting: monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, variance analysis, and clear insight to the CEO and board.

Accounting, Audit & Controls

• Lead and manage the internal accounting team, and own accurate reporting, reconciliation, and a reliable monthly close.
• Own external audit readiness and manage the auditor relationship, driving clean, investor-grade books.
• Run treasury operations across multiple currencies and entities.
• Own the three-way reconciliation of platform GMV to processor settlements to the Xero ledger, so internal numbers and banked cash always agree.

Tax & Regulatory

• Manage multi-jurisdictional tax compliance across the US, Cyprus, and other jurisdictions, working with tax software providers, corporate servicers, and legal counsel.
• Manage US requirements including Forms 1099 and federal and state filings, and W-8BEN collection and withholding for Rest-of-World creators.
• Manage indirect tax, including EU VAT and US sales tax on digital services.
• Manage intercompany accounting and transfer pricing across group entities.
• Coordinate with compliance on AML and sanctions-screening obligations as they touch finance and payouts.

Systems & Data Integrity

• Work closely with the technology and accounting teams so the internal system tracks user and creator payments and balances with full accuracy.
• Ensure every transaction is properly recorded, and drive continuous improvement toward automation and scale.

Fundraising & Investor Relations

• Own the finance workstream for fundraising: the model, the data room, cap-table hygiene, and investor and board reporting.
• Coordinate with banks, corporate service providers, and legal advisors through each raise.

BACKGROUND WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The strongest signal for us is where you have done this before. We want someone from a high-risk, high-volume online payments environment, ideally iGaming or online gambling, sports betting, online trading or brokerage, or a comparable regulated payments business. That is where the payment cascading, acquiring, chargeback, and reserve challenges we live with every day are best understood.

• iGaming, online gambling, sports betting, trading or brokerage, or similar high-risk payments background, with hands-on ownership of acquirers, processors, cascading, chargebacks, and reserves.
• Genuinely hands-on. You do the work yourself, not just supervise it, and you are happy being in the detail.
• Startup-minded: builds process from scratch and thrives in ambiguity and speed rather than waiting for a finished system.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• 10+ years in finance with a strategic and accounting focus in a multi-jurisdictional, cross-border online business, with proven budgeting and forecasting.
• Extensive experience with online payment gateways, acquirers, processors, chargebacks, and disputes - a must.
• Strong knowledge of multi-jurisdictional tax requirements and compliance.
• Experience leading finance and accounting teams.
• Comfortable with internal financial systems, integrating with payment platforms, and tracking user and creator balances.
• Proficiency with Xero or equivalent accounting software.
