SPECIAL SCIENTIST POSITIONS (RESEARCH)
Title: Special Scientist – Research (Junior or Senior Researcher)

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Cyprus invites applications for one or two part-time/full time Special Scientists-Research positions (Junior or Senior Researcher) in the research group of Assistant Professor Christoforos Neofytidis, as part of his research program “EXCELLENCE/0925 – Hopf problem and monotone invariants”.
QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD or Master’s degree in Mathematics in the research areas of Topology, Geometry, Algebra or Dynamical Systems. Preference will be given to candidates with research interests that include aspherical manifolds, Hopfian groups and other Hopf-type properties, non-zero degree maps, simplicial volume and other monotone invariants, geometric structures (in the sense of Thurston, fiber bundles, etc.), Anosov diffeomorphisms, low-dimensional manifolds and related topics.
For all positions a very good knowledge of the English language is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participation and contribution to the research program of Prof. Neofytidis. Writing and publication of research outcomes.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS:
The position can start in September 2026 or later. The position comes with no teaching duties. Full-time employment equals to 140hrs/month. The monthly gross salary for full-time employment will be determined based on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate and will range between €1500 - €2000. From the monthly gross earnings, the University of Cyprus will deduct the relevant sum which corresponds to the contributions of the employee to the various Governmental Funds and, if applicable, income tax. The position does not include a 13th Salary bonus.

The employment of persons who have reached the age of 65 years old, at the commencement date of employment, is prohibited.
Applicants need not be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. Applicants should however ensure, before applying, that in case they are selected they will be residing in Cyprus on a full-time basis during the employment period and submission of application implies acceptance of this condition.
At least the best three candidates per position who satisfy the required qualifications, will be interviewed by a 3-member Committee. Candidates shall be informed of the result of their application by the relevant entity.
