The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), invites applications for the recruitment of qualified applicants for a Researcher position. The ideal candidate should have a background in signal processing or a field that is closely related. The employment period is a fixed-term one-year or two-year contract, with the possibility of renewal upon satisfactory performance.

The CMMI is a non-profit, research, innovation and technology development organisation established in Cyprus, supported by EU funds via the Teaming program, as well as the Government of Cyprus and established industry stakeholders. The CMMI pulls together expertise from local universities and industry and international partners. To date, the CMMI has attracted more than EUR 10M of competitive funding for Research, Innovation and Technology Development projects across 30 EU-funded, national, and other collaborative projects with renowned partners such as the Danish Technical University (DTU) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Candidate profile:
For new industrial and EU-funded projects, we seek researchers who, under the supervision of the Research Director for Marine Technology, will deliver scientific research and innovation development, lead and coordinate technology development tasks and advance the technology readiness level of key innovative solutions. The candidate will have the unique opportunity to work with the project’s partners, all leading universities and research centres in Europe, and international private companies directly interested in the foreseen solutions. We value individuals who are ready to take on challenges, keen on undertaking applied research work, and delivering solutions that are fit for purpose in the industry or public sector.
Job description:
Successful candidates will contribute to CMMI projects and:
Assist or develop highly scalable, robust, and secure autonomous systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and launch new features and functionalities
Take ownership of the solution development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment.
Perform validation activities either in small-scale facilities (pool) or at sea
Stay up to date with emerging technologies and make recommendations on adoption where appropriate.
Qualifications:
PhD, MSc, or BSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, applied mathematics, or a closely related technical discipline.
Background in Signal Processing, Advanced Knowledge in Probability and Statistics, Software Development Skills: Skilled in programming languages such as Python, C++, specifically for implementing complex algorithms in robotics and machine learning.
Systems Integration Capability: Ability to integrate various technological components into functional systems.
Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to solve complex system design and operation issues.
Advantageous:
Advanced Machine Learning Techniques: Strong background in particle filtering and reinforcement learning methods, specifically applied to marine vehicles and underwater navigation.
Experience in Target Tracking: Familiarity with algorithms and systems designed for tracking and localisation, particularly in dynamic environments.
Research Experience: Proven track record in marine vehicle control using advanced machine learning.
