Project Manager-Researcher (Mathematics projects)
Job Description
C.I.P. Citizens in Power (CIP) is a non-profit educational and research organisation and one of Cyprus's leading bodies in the fields of global education, social innovation, citizen engagement, entrepreneurship, STEM, clean energy, and sustainable growth. CIP has taken part in more than 100 EU-funded projects, including KA2, AMIF, ENI CBC Med, COSME, CERV, PRIMA, and Horizon Europe.
CIP is now the founding organisation behind NiMATH, the Nicosia Mathematical Museum, the first museum dedicated to mathematics in Cyprus.
About NiMATH
NiMATH opens to the public in November 2026, housed in the former Shadow Theatre building in Nicosia, next to the Hambis Printmaking Museum. The museum is built on a single organising idea: that mathematics is a language, with its own grammar and structure, best acquired through use rather than repetition. Its exhibits are interactive and hands-on, inviting visitors of all ages to explore mathematical thinking through play, logic, and creativity. Many of these exhibits are developed through CIP's European projects and in collaboration with an international network of leading European mathematics museums and Universities, as well as science-communication organisations.
The Role
We are recruiting mathematicians to join the team building and running NiMATH and CIP's mathematics-focused European projects. The two strands are connected: the European projects are the framework through which many of the museum's exhibits are designed and built, for both its permanent and its temporary collections.
We are hiring for both full-time and part-time positions. Candidates should have a genuine interest in, and proven knowledge of, the didactics and communication of mathematics at both primary and secondary level. We particularly welcome applications from recent graduates at bachelor's, master's, and PhD level who are at the start of their professional careers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver and coordinate the museum's educational programmes and school visits, and support families and general visitors.
- Contribute to the design and development of mathematical exhibits for the museum's permanent and temporary collections.
- Coordinate and run European mathematics projects (Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, and related programmes) that lead to the design and construction of these exhibits.
- Develop engaging, mathematics-focused learning activities incorporating gamification, problem-based learning, and experimentation, for both school-age and adult audiences.
- Conduct literature reviews and prepare detailed reports for ongoing CIP projects.
- Prepare research proposals, grant applications, and tenders with provided guidance.
- Conduct fieldwork research, including interviews, surveys, observations, and focus groups; prepare data collection instruments and analyse the resulting data.
- Facilitate and organise workshops, dissemination activities, and museum events.
- Manage projects and provide administrative support for research and museum initiatives.
- Prepare and deliver presentations for various projects.
- Represent CIP and NiMATH at educational and professional events in Cyprus and abroad.
Minimum Qualifications
- University degree in Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM field, preferably from an English-speaking university.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Demonstrated interest and proven knowledge in the didactics and communication of mathematics at both primary and secondary level.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Greek.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Proven ability to network and represent CIP in conferences and meetings.
- Strong management and organisational skills.
- Dynamic personality with a proactive approach.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative.
Additional Qualifications that will be considered as an advantage:
- A PhD in a related field.
- Experience in managing European Commission funded projects.
- Experience in museum, informal, or hands-on learning, including the development of interactive mathematical materials or exhibits.
- An understanding of the use of technology for teaching and learning.
- Prior involvement in social and/or community initiatives.
What We Offer
At CIP, we are proud to be certified as a Great Place to Work®, a recognition of our commitment to employee well-being, growth, and excellence. We offer:
- An attractive remuneration package, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Medical coverage and a robust pension scheme (4%-10%).
- Free parking.
- Travel and training opportunities, and access to inclusive training resources.
- Mentoring and a strong culture of internal and external learning.
- A hybrid work model and Summer Fridays (reduced 6-hour workday).
- Competitive salary adjustments paired with performance-based bonuses.
- More than seven team-building events each year.
- A diverse, inclusive, and positive workplace, contributing to initiatives that drive positive social and environmental change.
Important note: The availability for extensive travelling is a necessary condition for recruitment in these positions.
