Who are we looking for?

The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and the efficient management of financial resources. This role supports the CFO in driving the financial strategy, ensuring profitability, and providing insights for decision-making in a fast-paced shipping industry environment.

Duties includes but are not limited to: 

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

• Prepare and review, with close coordination with the finance manager, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with local and international accounting standards.
• Conduct variance analysis and provide detailed reports on the financial performance of the company.
• Oversee and manage the preparation of management accounts, forecasting, and budgeting processes.

Cash Flow Management:

• Monitor cash flow, optimize working capital, and ensure liquidity requirements are met.
• Prepare cash flow forecasts, highlight cash flow risks, and propose solutions to mitigate financial risks.

Financial Compliance & Controls:

• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including tax filings, financial reporting, and audits.
• Develop and implement financial controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard the company’s assets.
• Liaise with external auditors and other regulatory bodies during audits and inspections.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

• Lead the annual budget process and develop financial forecasts in collaboration with department heads.
• Analyze performance against budgets, highlight deviations, and recommend corrective actions.

Cost Management & Profitability:

• Analyze the cost structure and work with the operational team to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Oversee the monitoring of operational expenses, focusing on optimizing profitability in the shipping operations.

Team Management:

• Lead and develop the finance team in Cyprus, ensuring the professional growth of direct reports.
• Provide training on financial processes and systems to staff across the organization.

Internal & External Reporting:

• Provide accurate and timely financial reports to senior management, stakeholders, and investors.
• Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns and other regulatory filings.

Strategic Support:

• Provide financial insights and advice to senior management to inform business decisions and strategy.
• Collaborate with the operations and commercial teams to support pricing and contract negotiations.

What do we expect of you?

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field
• Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) preferred.
• Proven experience (5+ years) as a Financial Controller or similar role, preferably in the shipping or logistics industry.
• In-depth knowledge of financial regulations and accounting principles.
• Extensive expertise in Cypriot taxation and social security regulations.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to interpret financial data.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
