Job Description

Prevention at Sea (PAS) is an LR ISO 9001 & 27001 & 22301 multi-awarded marine risk assessment company. We deliver maritime services for quality assurance and develop next-generation maritime software products that drive fleet management optimisation, paperless ship operations, and data-driven decision making. Our portfolio includes MORSe, our flagship digital logbook and compliance platform, and Immerseav, our maritime VR training platform — both built to raise safety, efficiency, and compliance standards across the global shipping industry.

We are seeking a Maritime Subject Matter Expert to join our Product team.

Reporting to the Chief Product & AI Officer, this role brings authentic shipboard experience to the development, quality assurance, training, and customer adoption of our two flagship products: MORSe (electronic ship logbooks, compliance, and fleet management) and Immerseav (immersive VR training for maritime competence and assessment). The successful candidate will act as the maritime voice of the product — ensuring that what we build is operationally sound, regulatory-compliant, and truly useful to the people who use it at sea and ashore.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Product Quality Assurance & Validation

•       Serve as the maritime subject matter authority for QA: perform operational sanity checks, usability reviews, and shipboard realism validation on MORSe and Immerseav releases.

•       Test product workflows against real-world shipboard operations and approve product releases from a maritime operations perspective before customer rollout.

•       Collaborate with the QA team on test case design, acceptance criteria, and validation of maritime scenarios.

JIRA & Issue Management

•       Create and review JIRA tickets covering product defects, enhancement requests, and operational issues — written in clear, actionable terms for the development team.

•       Validate completed development work against original maritime requirements and operational intent.

•       Prioritize change requests, bug fixes, and feature work based on business value, customer impact, and operational risk.

Training Delivery

•       Deliver comprehensive training on MORSe and Immerseav to customers, ensuring proper operational understanding and adoption.

•       Design and deliver internal training for sales, customer success, support, and onboarding teams on maritime operations context and product compliance features.

•       Create and maintain training materials, user guides, and onboarding content.

Industry Guidance & Product Direction

•       Provide industry guidance to development, product management, and customer success teams on maritime regulatory, operational, and industry-standard implications.

•       Contribute to product vision and strategy, ensuring both MORSe and Immerseav remain aligned with maritime industry needs and regulatory direction.

•       Research, monitor, and communicate regulatory and industry developments that impact the product roadmap.

•       Identify product gaps and generate ideas that improve user experience and drive customer growth.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

•       Participate in client technical meetings, presenting and demonstrating MORSe and Immerseav with maritime credibility.

•       Serve as the escalation point for maritime operational and compliance questions from customers, partners, and internal teams.

•       Represent Prevention at Sea in industry forums, committees, and exhibitions (e.g. Posidonia).

Cross-Team Collaboration

•       Work daily with the Maritime department, QA, software development, product management, and senior leadership to ensure products meet client needs and business goals.

•       Support requirement gathering and translate maritime business needs into clear functional inputs for designers and developers.

Key Performance Indicators:

Performance in this role will be measured against the following indicators:

•       Customer training sessions delivered per quarter and post-session feedback score (target ≥4.2/5).

•       Percentage of major product releases sanity-checked and signed off within SLA (target: 100%).

•       Pre-release critical defects identified vs. post-release escape rate (trending favourable).

•       JIRA ticket quality — percentage of tickets accepted by development without clarification (target ≥85%).

•       Response time on internal industry guidance requests (target: within 2 working days).

•       Internal stakeholder satisfaction score from product, development, and customer success teams (target ≥4/5).

•       Customer escalation resolution time for maritime and operational questions.

Qualifications & Requirements:

•       Proven sea service on board ships.

•       Strong maritime operational background and ability to translate shipboard reality into product requirements.

•       Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver training and present to diverse audiences.

•       High attention to detail and strong documentation discipline.

•       Problem-solving mindset and ability to propose practical, operationally grounded solutions.

•       Comfort with modern software platforms and digital tools; willingness to learn new technologies quickly.

•       Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

•       Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice to Have:

•       Captain or Chief Engineer level sea service.

•       Shipping or maritime academic studies.

•       Proven trainer experience, in-person or remote.

•       Experience with JIRA, Confluence, or other product management and issue-tracking tools.

•       Exposure to VR training, simulation, or competence assessment frameworks (e.g. ICMG, BCAV).

•       Experience with software QA, UAT, or product validation in any domain.

•       Familiarity with design and prototyping tools (Figma, Moqups) is a plus.

What We Offer:

A flexible and friendly working environment, continuous learning and personal development through our internal training programmes, an attractive compensation package, and extra benefits as per company policy. We welcome new ideas, fresh perspectives, and constructive feedback — and we invest in the people who help shape our products.
