Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic part-time Mathematics Teacher to join our Senior School Mathematics Department. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality Mathematics lessons within a UK-based curriculum and will work closely with the Head of Mathematics and departmental colleagues to support student progress, consistency of practice, and the wider ethos of the school.

The role may include teaching across Key Stage 3 and/or Key Stage 4, depending on timetable needs and the successful candidate’s experience. Experience with Edexcel IGCSE/GCSE Mathematics and/or A Level Mathematics would be an advantage.

 

🔍 Key Responsibilities

As outlined in the full Job Description, your responsibilities will include:

 

Learning and Teaching

  • Plan and deliver stimulating, challenging and well-structured Mathematics lessons that reflect the school curriculum and the needs of individual learners.
  • Teach consistently to a high standard, ensuring that pupils are appropriately challenged and supported to make progress.
  • Use assessment for learning, questioning, feedback and review to help pupils understand how to improve.
  • Differentiate tasks and expectations so that pupils of varying abilities are supported, stretched and able to access the learning.
  • Set, mark and monitor classwork, homework and assessments in line with departmental and school expectations.
  • Assess, record and report on pupils’ attainment, progress and attitude to learning accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Use available data and professional judgement to identify pupils who require additional support or further challenge.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and share relevant information with the Head of Mathematics and other colleagues as required.
  • Contribute to collaborative planning, shared resources and departmental consistency where appropriate.

 

Classroom Management and Pastoral Care

  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and engagement in lessons, in line with the school’s Behaviour Policy and classroom expectations.
  • Promote a respectful, safe and positive learning environment where pupils feel encouraged to participate and make progress.
  • Support pupils’ social, emotional and academic development through appropriate guidance and communication.
  • Work closely with form tutors, pastoral staff, SEND colleagues and senior staff where concerns about a pupil’s progress, wellbeing or behaviour arise.

 

Communication and Professional Conduct

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with pupils, parents, colleagues and school leaders.
  • Consult with parents or carers, where appropriate, about pupils’ progress, targets and areas for development.
  • Attend relevant departmental meetings, staff briefings and professional development sessions as required for a part-time post.
  • Use school systems, including digital platforms, responsibly and effectively to support teaching, learning and communication.
  • Uphold the school’s ethos, values, policies and professional standards at all times.

 

✅ Candidate Profile

Required:

  • A KYSATS-recognised university degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related subject.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach Mathematics clearly and confidently.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written.
  • Effective classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to plan engaging lessons that support and challenge learners of different abilities.
  • A positive, kind and caring approach to working with young people.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a department and wider school team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, child protection and the wellbeing of pupils.
  • Good organisation, reliability and ability to meet deadlines.

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience teaching within a UK-based curriculum school.
  • Experience teaching Edexcel IGCSE/GCSE Mathematics.
  • Experience teaching A Level or International A Level Mathematics.
  • Experience teaching mixed-ability groups and adapting resources for different levels of need.
  • Confident use of ICT and learning platforms such as Microsoft Teams, OneNote, or similar tools.
  • Understanding of data-informed target setting and progress monitoring.
