Technology Transfer Scientist
Job Description
Job Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to facilitate the seamless transfer of pharmaceutical processes and technologies from R&D to manufacturing or between manufacturing sites. This role ensures that processes are robust, scalable, and comply with regulatory standards, enabling successful product launches and commercial production.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the transfer of manufacturing processes from R&D to production or between manufacturing sites.
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and milestones for technology transfer projects.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing, to ensure successful transfer activities.
- Manage scale-up from R&D/pilot to commercial scale, including process characterization and definition of proven acceptable ranges / design space.
- Τransfer the control strategy, including Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) and Critical Process Parameters (CPPs), in line with QbD principles (ICH Q8–Q11).
- Coordinate raw material/excipient equivalence, equipment fit-gap assessment between sites, and analytical method transfer with QC.
- Prepare, review, and approve technology transfer documentation, including protocols, reports, batch records, and SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (FDA, EMA, etc.) and industry standards (ICH guidelines) throughout the transfer process.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all transfer activities and outcomes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for potential process deviations.(applying FMEA / ICH Q9 risk-management methodology, including assessment of process gaps between sending and receiving sites).
- Provide technical training and support to manufacturing personnel on new processes and technologies.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for transferred processes and provide ongoing technical support.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and ensure the sustainability of new processes in the production environment.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings and present updates on technology transfer progress.
- Foster a collaborative environment to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
- Support and/or lead process validation (PPQ) at the receiving site, and ensure equipment and facility qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) status supports the transfer.
- Demonstrate product/process equivalence between sending and receiving sites (analytical comparability; side-by-side or bracketing batches).
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field will be considered an advantage.
- At least 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, process development, or technology transfer.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present technical information clearly to stakeholders.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
- Good knowledge of Greek and English languages.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools; familiarity with project management tools and quality management systems (QMS).
