Job Description: Science Technician&nbsp;&nbsp;Position Summary: The Science Technician provides technical, practical, and administrative support to the Science Faculty, ensuring that laboratories, equipment, materials, and resources are maintained to a high standard and are readily available to support outstanding teaching and learning. The Science Technician plays a key role in promoting a safe, efficient, and engaging laboratory environment for students and staff.&nbsp;&nbsp;Key Responsibilities:&nbsp;Laboratory Preparation and Support<ul><li>Prepare, set up, and clear away equipment, chemicals, specimens, and materials for practical science lessons.</li><li>Support Biology, Chemistry, ESS and Physics teaching by ensuring practical activities are fully resourced and safely delivered.</li><li>Assist teaching staff with demonstrations, investigations, experiments, and practical assessments as required.</li><li>Prepare materials and equipment for internal and external examinations.</li><li>Maintain laboratory readiness and ensure teaching spaces are organised and functional.</li></ul>Equipment and Resource Management<ul><li>Maintain, clean, calibrate, and test laboratory equipment to ensure safe and effective operation.</li><li>Manage inventories of chemicals, consumables, apparatus, and laboratory resources.</li><li>Monitor stock levels and coordinate purchasing and replenishment of supplies.</li><li>Maintain accurate records of equipment, resources, and inventories.</li><li>Organise and maintain preparation rooms, storage areas, and laboratories.</li></ul>Health and Safety<ul><li>Ensure compliance with school health and safety policies and relevant regulations.</li><li>Maintain the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals, biological materials, and laboratory waste.</li><li>Conduct routine safety inspections of laboratories and equipment.</li><li>Maintain safety documentation, risk assessments, and chemical inventories.</li><li>Ensure laboratory safety equipment, including eyewash stations, first aid kits, spill kits, and fire safety equipment, is regularly checked and maintained.</li><li>Report hazards, accidents, equipment faults, and maintenance issues promptly.</li></ul>Administrative Support<ul><li>Assist the Head of Science with departmental administration related to laboratory resources and equipment.</li><li>Support budgeting and procurement processes through effective stock control and resource planning.</li><li>Maintain records required for inspections, audits, and accreditation processes.</li><li>Assist with science fairs, STEM events, enrichment activities, and departmental projects.</li></ul>School Community Support<ul><li>Support extracurricular science activities, clubs, competitions, and events.</li><li>Assist in the preparation of displays and exhibitions that promote science learning.</li><li>Contribute to the development of a positive and engaging learning environment within the Science Department.</li></ul>What We’re Looking For:Essential Qualifications and Experience<ul><li>Diploma, vocational qualification, degree, or equivalent experience in a science-related field.</li><li>Practical laboratory experience in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.</li><li>Knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures.</li><li>Competent IT skills, including Google suite, Microsoft Office and database or inventory management systems.</li><li>Knowledge about procurement and supply channels locally.</li></ul>Essential Skills<ul><li>Strong organizational and planning skills.</li><li>Excellent attention to detail.</li><li>Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.</li><li>Effective communication and interpersonal skills.</li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and support staff.</li><li>Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism.</li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills to mentor students and collaborate effectively with colleagues.</li><li>Fluent English Language (C1-C2).</li></ul>Desirable Qualifications and Experience<ul><li>Previous experience working as a Science Technician in a school environment.</li><li>Experience supporting international curricula such as IB, IGCSE, A Level, AP, or equivalent.</li><li>First Aid certification.</li><li>Experience managing chemical inventories and laboratory safety systems.</li><li>Familiarity with data-logging equipment, digital microscopes, and modern laboratory technologies.</li></ul>Personal Attributes<ul><li>Strong problem-solving skills.</li><li>Positive and service-oriented approach.</li><li>Commitment to supporting high-quality science education.</li><li>Enthusiastic about practical and inquiry-based learning.</li></ul>Terms of Employment<ul><li>Full-time position.</li><li>Salary and benefits according to the school's salary scale and employment policies.</li><li>Successful completion of safeguarding and background checks required.</li><li>Participation in professional development and training as required.</li></ul>Safeguarding Statement&nbsp;The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
