Senior Accountant – Job Description 

Job Title - Senior Accountant  

Department - Finance / Accounting  

Reports To  - Chief Executive Officer

 

Job Summary 

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations,  preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax  regulations, and supporting financial planning and audits. The role requires strong  analytical skills, leadership abilities, and attention to detail to ensure accurate financial  management and reporting.  

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to be promoted to Accounting  Supervisor within 6-12 months, subject to satisfactory performance, skills, overall  engagement and management approval.  

 

Key Responsibilities 

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.  

• Manage general ledger activities and account reconciliations.  

• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank  reconciliations.  

• Ensure compliance with local tax laws, VAT regulations, and accounting  standards.  

• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.  

• Coordinate and support internal and external audits.  

• Monitor cash flow and financial transactions.  

• Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records. 

• Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to management.  

• Support implementation and improvement of accounting systems and  procedures.  

• Train and mentor junior accounting staƯ. 

• Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing processes.  

 

Qualifications & Requirements 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.  

• Professional certification preferred (ACCA, CPA, CMA, ACA, or equivalent).  

• 5–8+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a senior role.  

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.  

• Experience with accounting softwares and Microsoft Excel.  

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.  

• Strong communication and leadership abilities.  

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.  

 

Preferred Skills 

• Audit and tax experience.  

• Budgeting and forecasting expertise.  

• Payroll analysis  

• Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.  

• Knowledge of IFRS standards.
