Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to assist our accounting department with reconciliations, accounting file preparation, review support, and maternity cover needs.

The successful candidate will support the accounting team by ensuring that bookkeeping records are complete, reconciled, and properly prepared before senior review and audit handover.

 

Duties / Responsibilities

The successful candidate’s duties will include:

  • Assisting with the completion and review preparation of client accounting records.
  • Performing bank reconciliations, supplier reconciliations, customer reconciliations, and control account checks.
  • Reviewing accounting records for missing entries, inconsistencies, and unreconciled balances.
  • Checking cash, petty cash, registry balances, payroll balances, VAT balances, and other relevant accounts.
  • Preparing reconciliation schedules and supporting working papers for senior review.
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of VAT records prior to VAT submission.
  • Reviewing bookkeeping files to ensure that the accounting cycle has been properly completed before audit handover.
  • Supporting the accounting department during maternity cover periods and increased workload.
  • Assisting with payroll analysis and accounting entries where required.

 

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A good university degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or another related field.
  • At least 3 years of previous experience in an accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or similar role.
  • Previous experience in an accounting firm or professional services firm will be considered an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, reconciliations, VAT records, payroll entries, and accounting file preparation.
  • Knowledge of VAT and payroll-related accounting matters.
  • Good knowledge of accounting software.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Professional communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Greek and English languages.
  • Knowledge of any additional language will be considered an advantage.
