Senior Accountant
Job Description
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Work-mode: Primarily office-based, with the possibility of some hybrid working
Location: Larnaca, Cyprus
Salary: Up to €32,500 gross per annum, paid in 13 salaries (negotiable, depedning on experience and qualifications)
Our client is a growing financial services and accounting firm based in Larnaca, providing outsourced accounting, financial reporting, payroll, VAT and related services to a portfolio of businesses.
With ambitious plans for continued growth, the company is strengthening its accounting team by bringing in an experienced professional who can take genuine ownership of client work and play an important role in the firm’s next stage of development.
Our client is seeking a hands-on and independent Accountant who can take ownership of day-to-day accounting responsibilities and ensure clients receive an accurate, reliable and timely service.
This is not simply a processing role. The successful candidate will help take responsibility for key accounting activities currently handled by senior management, creating additional capacity for the business to grow. As the company expands, there will be significant scope for the position to develop in responsibility and seniority.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update accounting records for a portfolio of clients
- Take ownership of day-to-day client accounting requirements and ensure work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines
- Review and supervise accounting work completed by other members of the team
- Support external auditors with audit preparation and provide the required accounting records and documentation
- Ensure accounting work is completed in accordance with relevant accounting standards and requirements
- Review, prepare and submit VAT and VIES returns and other required declarations to the Tax Department
- Manage payroll processing and related statutory obligations
- Assist with the preparation of financial and management reporting
- Monitor client deadlines and proactively follow up on outstanding information or documentation
- Identify accounting discrepancies or issues and take ownership of resolving them
- Liaise directly with clients, auditors and relevant authorities where required
- Support the continued improvement of internal accounting processes and service delivery
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or another relevant discipline
- At least 3 years of experience working in a similar role
- Strong practical understanding of VAT and Cyprus Tax Law
- Newly or partially qualified ACCA or ACA will be considered an advantage
- Good understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Experience with payroll and statutory submissions
- High level of personal responsibility and accountability
- Confident working independently without requiring continuous supervision
- Strong communication and client-service skills
