Academic English (Part-Time Faculty) – Fall 2026–27

The Faculty of Arts & Sciences (FAS) at the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) invites applications for a part-time faculty position in English and academic writing instruction for the Fall 2026–27 semester.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will teach one or more sections of ENGL 100: Academic English, a required first-year undergraduate course designed to introduce students to the demands of critical reading and writing at the university level.

Through a recursive process of exploration, discovery, and writing, students develop ownership of texts and practice their voice to compose documented syntheses. The course emphasizes critical reading, reading response writing, exploratory writing, research skills, oral presentations, and the ethical use of information and generative AI tools.

The instructor will be expected to:

·       Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in academic reading and writing;

·       Provide timely and constructive feedback on student writing;

·       Facilitate peer review, workshops, and collaborative learning activities;

·       Assess student work using established rubrics and course learning outcomes;

·       Maintain course materials and grades on Moodle;

·       Hold regular office hours and support students throughout the writing process;

·       Coordinate with the course coordinator and other faculty teaching in the program.

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

-       A PhD, MA, or MS in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, English Education, or a closely related field;

-       At least two years of university-level teaching experience in academic writing and/or first-year composition;

-       Demonstrated ability to teach critical reading, research writing, and source-based academic essays;

-       Native or near-native proficiency in English;

-       Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills;

-       Commitment to innovative, inclusive, and high-quality teaching.

Experience working with multilingual learners and familiarity with learning management systems and generative AI in writing instruction are highly desirable.
