Overview
Reporting to the Administrative and Financial Director and functionally to the School Headmaster, the Accounting Officer supports the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of the school’s financial operations. This role combines daily accounting work with financial monitoring, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of internal processes within a local and international (AEFE) framework.
The position operates within a finance function that may include internal resources as well as external accounting and audit support, and requires effective coordination and consistency across financial activities.
Key responsibilities
1. Accounting and bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records (general and analytical accounting)
- Record, verify, and reconcile accounting entries in a timely manner
- Ensure proper documentation and a clear audit trail for all transactions
- Perform regular reconciliations (bank accounts, third-party accounts)
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of accounting data across systems, including controls and adjustments where needed
- Support the reliability of financial data through validation and review
2. Billing and receivables management
- Prepare and issue tuition invoices and account statements
- Monitor incoming payments and outstanding balances
- Manage collections and follow up on overdue accounts
- Provide regular reporting on receivables and cash collection status
- Respond to parents’ enquiries regarding invoices, payments, and account statements
3. Payroll and social contributions
- Prepare and process monthly payroll
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of social contributions (GESY, Social Insurance, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment and payroll regulations
4. Purchasing and payables
- Support and monitor purchasing processes
- Ensure proper validation and recording of supplier invoices
- Manage supplier payments in line with internal procedures
- Maintain accurate accounts payable records
5. Reporting and financial monitoring
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports
- Contribute to budget preparation and monitoring
- Produce financial analyses and ad hoc reports as required
- Support specific reporting requirements, including AEFE-related reporting where applicable
- Prepare and input budget and financial data into institutional reporting systems, including AEFE platforms (e.g. MAGE)
6. Tax and regulatory compliance
- Prepare and submit tax declarations (IR7, TaxisNet, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with Cypriot accounting and tax regulations
- Monitor regulatory updates and support implementation as needed
7. Audit and internal control
- Liaise with external auditors and support annual statutory audits
- Support the timely implementation of audit recommendations
- Contribute to the development and improvement of internal control procedures
- Ensure proper documentation of processes and financial operations
8. Fixed assets and inventory
- Maintain the fixed asset register
- Calculate and record depreciation and amortization
- Monitor inventory records and ensure consistency with accounting data
9. Coordination and communication
- Act as a key contact between finance, management, and external stakeholders (auditors, advisors)
- Provide support to the Administrative and Financial Director
Participate in internal meetings and contribute to financial discussions when required
Candidate profile
- Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (AAT, LCCI, or equivalent is an advantage)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in an international or educational environment
- Strong knowledge of accounting software (SAP is an advantage) and advanced Excel skills
- Good understanding of Cypriot accounting and tax regulations
- Fluency in English and Greek (written and spoken); French is a strong advantage
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively
- Proactive mindset, with the ability to identify issues and raise alerts

Working conditions
- Full-time position (40 hours per week)
