Job Description

The Art Teacher will deliver an inspiring and engaging visual arts programme within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). The successful candidate will encourage creativity, self-expression, and artistic exploration while supporting students in developing technical skills, critical thinking, and an appreciation of diverse artistic perspectives and cultures.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality visual arts lessons aligned with the IB PYP framework and school curriculum.
  • Create a stimulating, inclusive, and student-centred learning environment.
  • Foster creativity, inquiry, and artistic confidence in all students.
  • Encourage students to experiment with a wide range of artistic techniques, materials, and media.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the individual learning needs of students.
  • Integrate visual arts into transdisciplinary units of inquiry where appropriate.
  • Promote the development of the IB Learner Profile attributes through arts education.
  • Maintain high standards of student behaviour and engagement.
  • The role may include a limited number of Art lessons within the Montessori Pre-Primary programme, as required by the school's timetable and operational needs. 

Assessment and Reporting

  • Assess student learning using a range of formative and summative assessment methods.
  • Monitor and document student progress effectively.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate assessment records in accordance with school policies.

Collaboration and Professional Practice

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialist colleagues to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Participate in collaborative planning meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support school exhibitions, assemblies, performances, and community events.
  • Maintain an organised, safe, and well-resourced art classroom.

Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing

  • Promote the wellbeing, safety, and inclusion of all students.
  • Adhere to the school's safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety policies.
  • Build positive and respectful relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Art, Fine Arts, Art Education, Visual Arts, or a related field.
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience teaching art to primary-aged students.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of inquiry-based and student-centred learning.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in an IB PYP school.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the IB philosophy and PYP framework.
  • Experience organising student art exhibitions and collaborative projects.
  • Experience working within an international school environment.
