The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:

1.      The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC)

2.      The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)

3.      The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC)

4.      The Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C)  

5.      The Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC)

 

Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Researcher to join the Institute’s STARC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassas Campus.

44A significant part of the position is devoted to building capacity in archaeological materials science in West Africa supported by the A. G. Leventis Foundation and European Union funding. The role therefore combines independent and collaborative archaeometallurgical research with international mentorship and discipline-building activities.

Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:

·        Develop and lead independent research projects in archaeological metal production, including fieldwork, experimental approaches, and laboratory analysis.

·        Contribute to the full breadth of the existing research activities of the A. G. Leventis Chair in Archaeological Materials Science.

·        Co-develop data generation and documentation protocols, and advance data processing and visualization applications across archaeological materials science.

·        Contribute in a leading role to the mentorship activities of the A. G. Leventis Chair, both supporting CyI-hosted visiting researchers and through local engagement with scholars particularly in West Africa.

Position Specific Required Qualifications:

•       PhD in Archaeometallurgy or closely related discipline

•       Experience in optical microscopy and SEM-EDS analysis

•       Experience in pXRF analysis

•       Experience in the study of primary metal production.

•       Skills in data processing and visualization in Excel and advanced other tools

 

Position Preferred Qualifications:

·        Experience in developing and building up relevant laboratory infrastructure;

·        Experience in handling government regulatory processes for international sample transport;

·        Experience in mentoring emerging scholars and peers in laboratory operations, data processing and interpretation;

·        Experience in West African archaeometallurgy will be considered a strong advantage.

Duration of appointment:

The initial period of the appointment will be for 36 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.

 

Remuneration details:

Salary Band: CYI5(2-11)

Position’s Starting Salary: CYI5.2 - € 44516.94
