Mechanical Engineer / Marine Engineer
Job Description
The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) is a Centre of Excellence for marine and maritime research, innovation and technology development and has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and matching funding from the Government of the Republic of Cyprus. The CMMI pulls together expertise from local universities, industry and international partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the activities of the Centre for Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering (NAOME) at the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI).
- Support engineering design, modelling, analysis, and experimental work related to marine mechanical and energy systems, contributing to CMMI’s research, innovation, education, and service activities.
- Work within multidisciplinary teams on engineering challenges related to marine systems, sustainability, and performance assessment.
- Support the development and application of data-driven and sensor-enabled solutions for marine environments.
- Undertake hands-on technical activities, including supporting the use of marine generator sets (gensets) for testing purposes.
- Assist with monitoring, data collection, and analysis using integrated sensors and analysers.
Requirements:
BSc in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering.
MSc and/or PhD in a relevant field (advantageous).
Proven experience in engineering modelling techniques such as CFD and CAD, with practical coding skills in Python and/or MATLAB.
Experience working with sensors and data acquisition systems, including integration with digital or IoT-based platforms (advantageous).
Familiarity with marine energy systems and performance assessment methodologies (advantageous).
Experience with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies and tools such as Umberto or SimaPro (advantageous).
Experience in analysing engine performance and emissions using sensor-based measurement systems and gas analysers (advantageous).
Experience in proposal writing and a proven successful track record in attracting external funding (advantageous).

Strong written, oral, graphical, and digital presentation skills.
Ability to work under pressure and plan personal workload effectively.
Ability to solve problems creatively.
An EU work permit will be considered an advantage.
