Job Description
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Operations
Coordinate the day-to-day operations of all active construction projects. Ensure project managers/site managers have the resources they need. Monitor project progress, schedules, costs, and manpower. Identify delays, risks, and operational problems early. Coordinate between office staff, site teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. 2. People & Workforce
Manage and coordinate site managers, supervisors, foremen, skilled workers, and subcontractors. Plan manpower according to project requirements. Monitor staff performance and productivity. Assist with recruitment and onboarding of site personnel. Resolve operational issues between teams. 3. Procurement & Suppliers
Coordinate purchasing of construction materials, tools, and equipment. Maintain relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors. Ensure materials arrive on site when required. Monitor material costs and reduce unnecessary purchasing. Negotiate prices and terms where appropriate. 4. Equipment & Resources
Manage company vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment. Ensure equipment is available, maintained, and properly allocated between projects. Monitor equipment utilization and maintenance schedules. 5. Cost & Budget Control
Monitor operational costs across projects. Review material, labour, subcontractor, and equipment costs. Compare actual costs against budgets. Identify areas of waste or overspending. Work closely with the accountant/finance manager. 6. Health, Safety & Quality
Ensure company and project safety procedures are followed. Coordinate with the Health & Safety Officer. Ensure quality standards are maintained. Follow up on accidents, incidents, defects, and corrective actions. Promote a strong safety culture across the company. 7. Scheduling & Coordination
Review project schedules and major milestones. Coordinate resources between multiple projects. Prioritize urgent operational requirements. Hold regular meetings with project/site managers. Ensure upcoming works are properly prepared. 8. Management Reporting The Operations Manager should provide the Managing Director/Owner with regular information such as:
Project progress Labour requirements Material requirements Equipment status Project delays Cost overruns Subcontractor performance Safety issues Quality issues Cash-flow-related operational requirements Major risks and recommended actions
