Job Description

Research Support Officer (RSO)

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), based in Larnaca, is seeking to recruit on a fixed-term contract basis a qualified applicant for the position of Research Support Officer, with the possibility of renewal.

 

Company Description:

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) is a Centre of Excellence for marine and maritime research, innovation and technology development and has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (EU Teaming project CMMI/MaRITeC-X) and matching funding from the Government of the Republic of Cyprus.

 

Research and Innovation Support Unit Duties and Responsibilities:

The Research and Innovation Support Unit (RISU) is responsible for managing the EU Teaming Project. It supports the management and the Centres/Units of CMMI in addressing relevant tasks, reports and deliverables, ensuring prompt and appropriate reporting and reviewing for the project. It provides similar support for other projects undertaken by CMMI’s Centres and scientists. RISU also supports the activities of CMMI scientists in terms of proposals and publications.  It monitors calls from various funding schemes that could be of interest to CMMI and provides support in the preparation and submission of proposals. Securing external research funding is crucial for CMMI’s sustainability and RISU plays an important part in supporting proposal preparation and submission. RISU maintains records of the scientific activity of CMMI, such as scientific publications, proposals submitted as well as lectures, seminars and conferences attended.

  

Job Duties:

As part of the RISU Team, the Research Support Officer (RSO) will undertake tasks related to the coordination of efforts with all Divisions, Units and Centres of the Institute and be responsible for various administrative tasks, including keeping records of various data (e.g. proposals, publications, events, projects, deliverables, milestones, risks, etc.), following the internal procedures and extracting information from the data collected (data analysis, creation of charts and diagrams, etc.).

The RSO will be expected to prepare and support the elaboration of written documents and reports, with excellent use of the English (primarily) and Greek languages.

The ability to develop texts for different target audiences and purposes (e.g. dissemination/ presentation to third parties and the public, deliverables to the European Commission, etc.).

 

The RSO will also be expected to have advanced problem-solving skills, time management skills and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

 

More specifically, the successful candidate will:

  • Perform and manage office activities and operations to ensure the smooth operation of the Unit and compliance with CMMI’s procedures, under the guidance of the Head of the Unit
  • Manage a wide scope of administration tasks (e.g. record keeping, data analysis, data visualisation, writing letters and correspondence, undertaking registration to events, support to the organisation of external and internal events)
  • Collect, synthesise, and analyse data and support the preparation of reports
  • Advise and assist senior management with special assignments
  • Communicate with various stakeholders in the marine, and maritime sector e.g., partners, clients, public and governmental authorities
  • Facilitate research project management life cycle, including initiation, development and implementation of various project activities, project plans and reviews
  • Prepare materials for publication, e.g., letters, articles, press releases as well as presentations and speeches for events, as instructed
  • Organise meetings, prepare meeting agendas and record minutes of meetings when requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned to them

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Management, Marketing/Communication, Economics or Finance, Trade and Shipping, or a related field (Technology, Sciences or Social Sciences).
  • Exceptional writing skills in Greek and English, for content writing
  • Attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Strong organisational skills with a problem-solving attitude
  • Excellent Microsoft Office 365 skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.
  •  Relevant experience in EU or national research project management will be considered as an advantage
  • Experience and/or certification in data analysis and numerical skills will be considered an advantage
  • Experience elaborating dissemination materials will be considered an advantage
  • Experience and/or certification in project management, including planning, execution, delivery, quality assurance and reporting will be considered an advantage
  •  Experience and/or certification in using Project Management or ERP (NetSuite) Software will be considered an advantage
  •  Knowledge of the EU Funding and Tenders portal and/or IRIS portal of the Research and Innovation Foundation would be considered an advantage
  •  Advanced computer skills will be considered an advantage
  • Knowledge of the Marine and Maritime industry will be considered as an advantage
