Position Title         Bus Monitor

This is a part-time, split-shift role requiring a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon, aligned with the school’s transportation schedule. The role involves accompanying and supervising students during their journeys to and from school, helping to ensure a safe, well-organized, and supportive environment on the bus.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1.     Supervise students throughout the journey, including safe boarding and exiting, and ensure students use the correct bus and designated stop.

2.     Support students as needed, including assistance with boarding, seating, seat belts, and safely exiting the bus.

3.     Monitor and report behavioral, safety, or safeguarding concerns to the appropriate school staff, particularly significant or recurring issues.

4.     Provide active supervision across all age groups, allowing the bus driver to remain focused on the safe operation of the vehicle.

5.     Communicate transportation changes and disruptions promptly, ensuring that the school and/or parents are informed of significant delays, route changes, bus breakdowns, replacement buses, changes of driver, or other circumstances affecting the normal journey.

6.     Follow the school's transportation communication and emergency procedures, maintaining reliable contact with the designated school representative and escalating concerns when necessary.

Safeguarding: 

Safeguarding children from harm is a key responsibility for this role.

It is your responsibility to provide children with an environment safe from physical harm, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect.

You are responsible for reporting any abuse or neglect incidents to the counselor or direct supervisor within 24 hours. If the counselor and direct supervisor are unavailable, you must report incidents to the principal. It is your responsibility to ensure that the information arrives to the counselor. If the child is in immediate danger, keep the child safe until you reach the counselor, principal, or director.

It is a condition of your employment at the school that if any criminal charges or convictions arise against your name related to children that you report this to the director.

All applicants must have a clear Criminal Record Check and a Certificate of Prevention and Combating of sexual Abuse an Sexual Exploitation if Children and Child Pornography.
