Role overview
AEON is seeking a Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer to lead the development and enhancement of the company’s cloud infrastructure, delivery workflows, and platform tools. This role involves modernising infrastructure as code, implementing comprehensive disaster recovery, consolidating CI/CD systems, designing GitOps workflows with ArgoCD, and improving observability, security, and cost efficiency across multiple AWS environments.
This is a hands-on senior position with significant responsibility for technical direction and day-to-day execution. The engineer will collaborate closely with engineering teams to streamline processes, boost reliability, and help AEON accelerate its progress while maintaining stability.
Key responsibilities
Infrastructure as Code and Environments
- Migrate manually provisioned AWS resources to a Terraform-based infrastructure.
- Design and maintain a Terragrunt structure to support multiple environments, including development, QA, staging, production, and regional variants.
- Plan and implement a migration from Terraform to OpenTofu with minimal disruption.
- Ensure environment consistency, separation of state and access, and apply clear naming conventions.
AWS Architecture and Disaster Recovery
- Design and maintain AWS architectures using EC2, FSx, ECS, EKS, RDS, and related services.
- Implement and regularly test disaster recovery strategies with existing Troposphere/CloudFormation codebases.
- Define and maintain RTO/RPO targets, backup strategies, and procedures for failover and failback.
- Reduce blast radius through multi-AZ/multi-region patterns, segmentation, and appropriate guardrails.
CI/CD and Automation
- Manage CI/CD workflows across GitLabCI, DroneCI, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins.
- Standardise pipeline stages, reducing duplication with shared templates and libraries.
- Lead the consolidation of CI/CD systems into Jenkins or another central platform, ensuring safe migration and feature parity.
- Integrate security checks, such as SAST, SCA, and container image scanning, into pipelines without impeding developer productivity.
GitOps, ArgoCD, and EKS
- Design GitOps repository structures for both infrastructure and application deployments.
- Deploy and operate ArgoCD across multi-cluster EKS environments, including ApplicationSets and App-of-Apps patterns.
- Implement environment promotion flows (dev → staging → prod) using GitOps principles.
- Ensure reliable and consistent deployment of microservices across multiple EKS clusters.
Observability, Security, and Cost Optimisation
- Enhance and maintain monitoring and logging with Zabbix, Wazuh, and Grafana.
- Define SLIs/SLOs for key services and manage incident response processes.
- Integrate Wazuh and other security signals into incident and compliance workflows.
- Promote AWS cost visibility and optimisation through tagging, rightsizing, autoscaling, and purchasing strategies.
Databases and Data Services
- Support Postgres and Oracle databases in production, whether managed (RDS) or self-hosted.
- Implement strategies for database backup, recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Collaborate with development teams to safely integrate database changes into IaC and CI/CD processes.
Leadership, Collaboration, and Culture
- Serve as a technical leader for DevOps and platform engineering within AEON.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to help them progress toward greater responsibility.
- Work closely with developers, data engineers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and design effective solutions.
- Foster a culture of reliability, automation, and continuous improvement.
Required qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS services, including networking, security, computer, storage, and managed solutions.
- Expertise with Terraform and Terragrunt in managing multiple environments.
- Experience planning or executing migrations between infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform to OpenTofu.
- Solid background in CI/CD platforms, including GitLabCI, DroneCI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and pipeline design.
- Practical experience running containerised workloads with Docker Swarm, ECS, or EKS.
- Hands-on experience with GitOps and ArgoCD in production, preferably across multiple clusters.
- Knowledge of monitoring and logging solutions such as Zabbix, Wazuh, Grafana, or similar tooling.
- Experience managing Postgres and/or Oracle databases in production environments.
- Strong proficiency with Git, branching strategies, code review workflows, and release management.
- Proven track record of owning projects end-to-end and delivering measurable improvements.
Nice-to-have qualifications
- Experience with Python/Troposphere and CloudFormation for infrastructure automation.
- Exposure to cost optimisation and FinOps practices.
- Experience working in highly regulated or security-sensitive environments.
- Contributions to open-source DevOps or platform engineering projects.
Personal attributes
- Ownership mindset: taking responsibility for problems and driving them to resolution.
- Pragmatic and outcome-focused: balancing ideal solutions with practical constraints.
- Strong communicator: able to explain complex systems to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentoring orientation: willing to teach, share context, and support others’ growth.
- Eager to learn: staying current on DevOps, cloud, and platform engineering trends without chasing every new tool.
Benefits:

- Annual Bonus: A discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance, awarded annually starting after the completion of one full year of employment.
- Private Medical Insurance for you and your dependents, commencing on your first day.
