The Position
Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the external CFO, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the integrity of the Group’s financial records, the quality of management and statutory reporting, and the development of a cohesive, well-organised accounting team operating on a shared QuickBooks platform.
This is a leadership position. The successful candidate will be expected to set the tone for the finance function, raise reporting standards across the Group, and act as a trusted partner to operational management on budgeting, forecasting and financial control.
Duties and Responsibilities
Team leadership and organisation
- Lead, mentor and develop the Group’s accounting team across all subsidiaries, setting clear roles, responsibilities and performance expectations.
- Design and implement an efficient operating model for the finance function — including allocation of work between Group and subsidiary level, segregation of duties, and review controls.
- Establish consistent accounting policies, processes and month-end timetables across all twelve Group companies.
- Recruit, onboard and retain qualified staff as the Group grows.
Financial reporting and control
- Own the integrity of the Group’s books and records in QuickBooks across all entities, ensuring timely and accurate monthly closes.
- Produce consolidated monthly management accounts, KPI dashboards and variance analysis for senior management and the Board.
- Manage the year-end audit process and act as the primary point of contact for the Group’s external auditors and tax advisors.
- Ensure compliance with statutory reporting, VAT, tax and other regulatory obligations across all Group companies.
- Strengthen the internal control environment and document key financial processes.
Budgeting, forecasting and business partnering
- Lead the Group’s annual budgeting process and prepare medium-term financial projections at both subsidiary and consolidated level.
- Produce rolling cash flow forecasts and monitor Group liquidity, working capital and debt service requirements.
- Provide financial analysis and modelling to support pricing decisions, new investments, acquisitions and other strategic initiatives.
- Partner with subsidiary managers to translate operational plans into financial targets, and to hold management accountable to those targets.
Systems and process improvement
- Optimise the use of QuickBooks across the Group, including chart of accounts, intercompany structures, reporting and integrations.
- Identify and implement automation and process improvements to reduce manual work and improve the speed and quality of reporting.
Qualifications/ Experiences/Skills
- ACA or ACCA qualified, trained at a Big 4 or recognised Tier 2 accounting firm.
- Post-qualification experience in a controllership, group accounting or senior finance role will be considered a plus
- Working knowledge of IFRS and of statutory and tax reporting requirements.
- Practical, hands-on experience with QuickBooks (or a comparable mid-market accounting platform) is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build, organise and lead an accounting team — a clear people manager, not just a technical accountant.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling skills, with the ability to translate numbers into a credible business narrative.
- Highly organised, with the discipline to drive month-end timetables and reporting deadlines across multiple entities.
- Confident communicator, comfortable presenting to the CEO, Board and external stakeholders.
- Commercial mindset, with sound judgement and a constructive, problem-solving approach.
- High standards of accuracy, integrity and confidentiality.
