Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental (HSQE) Manager - Larnaca Airport
Job Description
The HSQE Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and continuously improving the company’s HSQE management systems, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, airport requirements, aviation industry standards and company policies.
This is a key management position requiring a strong operational understanding, excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees, management, airport authorities, airlines and other external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the company’s Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) programs across Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Cyprus legislation, aviation regulations, airport requirements and company procedures and EASA.
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve HSQE policies, procedures, manuals and management systems.
- Conduct and oversee risk assessments, workplace inspections, safety audits and compliance checks.
- Monitor operational activities and identify potential hazards, risks, non-conformities and areas for improvement.
- Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and safety-related occurrences, ensuring appropriate corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Monitor and analyse HSQE performance indicators and prepare regular reports for Senior Management.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings and corrective actions.
- Work closely with Operations, Ramp, Passenger Handling, Load Control, GSE and other departments to promote a strong safety and quality culture.
- Develop and deliver, or coordinate, relevant HSQE training and awareness programs for employees and management.
- Ensure appropriate emergency preparedness and response procedures are established, communicated and tested.
- Monitor environmental performance and support initiatives relating to waste management, environmental compliance and sustainability.
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with airport authorities, airlines, regulatory bodies, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Provide professional HSQE advice and guidance to management and employees.
- Ensure HSQE documentation, records, reports and corrective-action registers are maintained accurately and effectively.
- Promote a proactive approach to safety, quality and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
The successful candidate should have:
- A university degree or recognised professional qualification in Health & Safety, Quality Management, Environmental Management, Aviation, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional qualifications in Health & Safety and/or Quality Management.
- Minimum 8 years’ relevant experience in HSQE, preferably within aviation, airport operations, ground handling, logistics, transportation or a similarly safety-critical environment.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, risk management, incident investigation and audit processes.
- Experience in developing and implementing management systems, policies and procedures.
- Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Greek.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently while also operating effectively as part of a management team.
- A proactive, practical and solutions-oriented approach.
- The ability to work in a demanding operational environment and manage multiple priorities.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
The following would be considered an advantage:
- Experience within airport ground handling or airline operations.
- Knowledge of aviation safety and quality management systems.
- Knowledge of SMS (Safety Management Systems).
- Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001.
- Lead Auditor/Internal Auditor qualifications.
- NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualifications.
- Experience with aviation industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Previous experience managing audits, investigations and corrective-action programs.
- Experience in developing and delivering employee training.
