Finance Manager (Mid–Senior Level)
Job Description
We are looking for a commercially minded and highly detail-oriented Finance & Accounting Manager to build and lead the finance function of a growing property development company.
This is not a corporate reporting role. We are looking for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, taking ownership of the accounting function, and building processes from the ground up.
Initially, this role will be highly hands-on. The successful candidate will personally oversee and execute key accounting, reporting, treasury, and financial control activities while gradually building an internal finance team and reducing the company's reliance on external accounting providers.
The ideal candidate combines strong accounting fundamentals with commercial thinking and has the ambition to build a finance department that supports a rapidly growing business.
What Success Looks Like
During the first 12-18 months, the successful candidate will:
- Take ownership of the month-end close process and management reporting.
- Improve the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
- Establish stronger financial controls and reporting processes.
- Build robust cash flow forecasting and treasury management practices.
- Create project-level profitability reporting across all developments.
- Bring appropriate accounting functions in-house.
- Build and mentor a small finance team.
- Reduce dependency on external accounting providers while maintaining compliance and audit readiness.
Accounting & Financial Control
- Personally oversee the day-to-day accounting function.
- Review and approve reconciliations for bank, supplier, customer, and intercompany accounts.
- Ensure accurate posting of journals, accruals, prepayments, and month-end adjustments.
- Maintain strong balance sheet controls and supporting schedules.
- Manage VAT, tax, statutory, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Coordinate annual audits and ensure audit readiness throughout the year.
- Improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Building the Finance Function
- Assess which accounting activities should remain outsourced and which should be brought in-house.
- Design and implement scalable finance processes and reporting systems.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop future finance team members.
- Establish a high-performance finance culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement.
- Drive efficiencies that reduce external accounting costs over time.
Essential
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting and finance roles.
- Strong technical accounting background with hands-on experience.
- Experience preparing management accounts and month-end close processes.
- Experience managing cash flow and treasury activities.
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
- Ability to work independently and build structure in a growing environment.
Highly Desirable
- Experience in property development, construction, real estate, or project-based businesses.
- Experience building or scaling an internal finance function.
- Experience transitioning accounting work from outsourced providers to internal teams.
- Experience implementing financial controls and reporting frameworks in growing companies.
Please note: This role is intentionally hands-on. We are not looking for a candidate whose experience is limited to reviewing reports prepared by others. The successful candidate must be comfortable owning both strategic finance responsibilities and day-to-day accounting operations while building the finance function over time.
